A “guitar starter pack” should include everything a beginning guitar player needs. This pretty much covers all the bases – a guitar, strap, gig-bag, spare strings, tuner, capo, restringing tools, truss-rod spanner, wipe-down cloth, etc.

But the main item is of course the guitar.

A poor guitar can put a new player off from the beginning, no matter how many extras are included in the package. A poor guitar can be physically hard to play, uninspiring sound, a big disappointment.

I had my reservations about this package given the price of less than $140. “Starter” guitars from more famous instrument companies begin at around $200 for a basic model. But I was pleasantly surprised. The guitar itself is surprisingly good for a beginner’s instrument. The strings on arrival were close to pitch but needed tuning. The supplied electronic tuner was easy to use with clear markings. When a string is in tune the display shows the pitch and glows green. The tuning pegs are smooth. These things matter.

The body is made from Linwood ply rather than solid wood as on more expensive guitars. It’s light weight and sonically resonant.

The supplied strings are light gauge for an acoustic (11s for the top E), making it easier to press them to the frets. The frets are rather small but this helps keep tuning stability. As with most acoustic guitars the intonation isn’t perfect but it’s good enough. If you touch a natural harmonic above the 12th fret you get a perfect note, but if you press the string down at the 12th it goes a little sharp especially on the bass strings. The saddle where the strings attach to the body is “compensated” which is a design feature to improve intonation if you play higher up the neck, but this guitar is more in its element for playing chords lower down - your basic position for strumming and busking. The smaller frets make intricate fingerwork more difficult but it isn’t a guitar for this style anyway.

As a “beginners” guitar it’s very pleasing, and isn’t one of those cheap monsters that will put beginners off. I’ve been having fun tuning to open chords and experimenting and enjoying the lively sound.

The device was shipped in a great container and arrived on scheduled date in excellent condition. The guitar is an excellent starter instrument that we look forward to lasting our granddaughter for years. Her gramma (who was a professional guitarist) was well pleased with the quality of construction and the tone of the instrument.

Bought this for my wife to learn on. Sounds great. Seems like strong enough construction to take the odd bang. Pretty inclusive kit

Brilliant set for my oldest boy who is starting to play guitar at school. I was very impressed by the extras included in the package with lots of accessories, comes with a little bit of scratches but that’s fine, apart from that very happy with it.
